Cerebral Funk

from Diverse Elements by Brian Melick

/

about

Solo piece mixing a collection of organic percussion with conventional drum kit. I created the main melody with a very interesting device that I picked up at a NAMM Show many years ago that was designed for guitar players to use to practice their finger picking technique with when they were away from their instrument. It was set up for a 6 string player that had a small pickup built in to electrify it. I played with the eraser end of two no.#2 pencils as mallets. Like a dulcimer. I created the counter melodic pattern by using the toms of the drum set and to add movement and texture I used Angklungs and Caxixi
